I am Dr. Gaurav Hirey, Head Coach at Job Boosts. With over 22 years of functional expertise in HR and leading Recruitment, Manish has worked across multinational & large Indian Companies, I can tell you that there are things that you can do right now to get noticed for the work you do.
You may be over-delivering in areas that do not matter. The reasons can be many but if you are putting in the effort, I’m sure you want to be recognized for it. Here are three secrets that can you get noticed at your workplace.
1. Know your organization
Different companies have different cultures. Make sure you notice behaviours that are rewarded in your organization. I don’t want you to guess or assume, rather really observe. Pay attention to who is successful and why. There might be a pattern that you can follow. For example, people who work smart and close positions are valued more than people who work hard but show no results. It may vary in different companies depending on the work culture. Remember it’s worth knowing the patterns & follow them so that your work does not get unnoticed.
2. Prioritize your tasks
It is possible that you are focussing on the tasks and delivering what may be not important for your manager or your company. Make sure you are working on the right things. You might be aware of your tasks and projects but regular check-ins with your manager or supervisor can help you prioritize your work. Make sure you maintain a to-do list and know the percentage of time you should put for a task. Prioritize and allocate the majority of your time to important tasks and keep your supervisor informed.
3. Keep relevant people informed about your work
You need to let others know what you are working on currently. Having said that, I don’t mean you send 40 emails informing and bragging about a project or a task you completed. Talk about your team’s accomplishments when someone asks you. Make every opportunity count. If you 24are someone who knows their deliverable well, your manager and colleagues will see you as someone who is on top of their work & trustworthy. At every opportunity you get, appreciate your team for their accomplishments, this will help you to build trust with them and that in turn will get you noticed. It may take some time but if you keep at it, sharing credit at work will surely help you at work.
Conclusion
When you are working hard and giving it your all, your work deserves to get noticed. Know your organization and be aware of what gets recognized or rewarded. Make sure you are prioritizing and paying attention to important tasks. Maintaining a to-do list will help you organize your work better. Be aware of what you are currently working on. Share accomplishments with your team and be informed of the progress. Follow these steps and I can assure you will get noticed at work. I wish you all the best!
